MPI PROPOSED PROJECT PREMABLE In furtherance, to support the Millennium Declaration signed in September 2000 by 189 heads of government, that give birth to a global plan tagged the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) by 2015, if the world (including Nigeria) achieves these goal, more than 500 million people will be lifted out of poverty and 250 million will no longer suffer from hunger while 30 million children and 2 million mother who might reasonably have been expected to die will be saved according to the UN chronicle/ A practical plan to achieve the MDGs (January 2005). The MDGs is a campaign drawn as effort to bring about some changes to sustain development in the developing countries. Since the Millennium Development Goals form an ambitions agenda for reducing poverty and improving lives and it was world leaders that formulated the MDGs to improve the living condition of their citizen, each goal contains one or more target to be reached by 2015 and each country has to set realistic time- bound and measurable national development goal in line with these targets. Although it is government who are responsible for achieving these goal but government alone can not achieve these without the collaborative effort from civil society organizations whether the CSOs or NGOs locally, nationally, regionally focused. Nigeria as a developing country is part of this global plan and the present democratic government led by president Olusegun Obasanjo had created an office for the MDGs in the Presidency, Abuja. Achieving the Millennium Development Goals is a collective responsibility of everyone which include the general public, civil society organizations, private sector, academic institution, local government, state, national, religion bodies, international development partners and diplomatic community, what of the media? , radio, television, and print. It is a full stakeholders participation, all sector must be fully committed to the MDGs attainment. THE EIGHT MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS ARE:Goal 1: Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger.Goal 2: Achieve universal primary education.Goal 3: Promote gender equality and empower women.Goal 4: Reduce child mortality.Goal 5: Improve maternal health.Goal 6: Compact HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases.Goal 7: Ensure environment sustainability.Goal 8: Develop a global partnership for development. It is five years into the campaign of the MDGs, there is need for Nigeria media to support the campaign effectively, so as to project to the public , government and all other stakeholders efforts in achieving these goal. In line with this MEDIA PARTNERSHIP INITIATIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT, a non- governmental organization newS agency focused on communication for development proposed to launch a media outreach, to support the attainment of the MDGs in and outside Nigeria. The media relations shall be tagged;” MEDIA 2015 PROJECT FOR MDGs” MEDIA 2015 PROJECT is for reporting, monitoring and covering all MDGs achievement by using the media to make the government effort to be known, transparent and accountable to the public as the recipients of the MDGs. PROJECT PARTICULARSMEDIA PARTNERSHIP INTIATIVE FOR DEVELOPMENT (MPID) as a pivotal for public information has designed a multi-media project to create awareness, monitor, report and generate public opinion on the Millennium Development Goals in and outside Nigeria. PROJECT NAME: MEDIA 2015 PROJECT FOR MDGsFOCUS: The project focused on the MDGs by using media as a tool to campaign, report and evaluate the implementation of the goals in Nigeria and beyond.THE MEDIA PARTNERSHIP: The initiative shall make use of the communication tools in order to foster the MDGs through an alliance with other established media organizations in Nigeria and beyond by using newspaper, magazine, radio, television and the internet to syndicate reports and coverage. M2P AGENDA FOR THE MDGs AGENDA 1: To raise a media campaign on the MDGs activities and benefit as a framework to address grassroot development concerns. AGENDA 2: To mobilize the youth at all levels to participate actively in the MDGs attainment. AGENDA 3: To use the media to generate public opinion about the government actions in favour of the MDGs policy target, as a measure to attain NEEDS, SEEDS & LEEDS.AGENDA 4: To create a media partnership to private & public sectors, religions bodies, community leaders, union bodies, academic sectors, and other stakeholder resources to support the implementation of the MDGs. AGENDA 4: To put in place a professional media network to report, publicize and hold to account effort at all levels on the MDGs attainment and other related development activities. M2P slogan :” SPEAK OUT AGAINST UNKEPT PROMISES”DURATION : 2006-2015 MEDIA MARKETING PARTNERSHIP (MMP) The project shall make use of the communication power of television radio, newspaper, magazine and the internet in order to foster the Millennium Development Goals. The project shall contribute to raise awareness of the key development challenges of our time and to raise secure support for co-operation for MDGs attainment in Nigeria. We are building on our media experience in the field to partner with any media organization in and outside Nigeria for each of the means of reaching out to the target audience. Our media marketing partnership shall provide enable environment for sponsorship consideration with a breakdown budget on specific slot to each production. MMP shall open to discuss on the expectation of the partners in exchange for their input and we shall provide a multimedia visibility to the organization that lend their support. THE BENEFITS.
